The small print

Terms & Conditions

The agreement between you and Zainab Irshad Akhtar, who runs The Growing Ledger. Written plainly, because a ledger should be readable.

Last updated 12 August 2026

1. Who you are contracting with

The Growing Ledger is operated by Zainab Irshad Akhtar, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom, trading as The Growing Ledger ("we", "us", "our"). When you create an account or subscribe, you are entering into an agreement with us. You can reach us at hello@growingledger.com.

2. Accepting these terms

By using the site, creating an account or subscribing, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please stop using the service. Continued use after we update these terms means you accept the updated version; we will change the "last updated" date above when we do.

You confirm that you are at least 16 years old, or that you have permission from a parent or guardian, and that any details you give us are accurate and kept up to date.

3. What the service is

The Growing Ledger is a website and installable web app for keeping a personal growing ledger — weekly logs, monthly overviews and reflection prompts — alongside public writing, a portfolio and curated recommendations.

  • Free — an account with a limited number of ledger entries each week.
  • Pro (£2.99 per month) — unlimited weekly entries and access to the Pro sections of your ledger, billed monthly until you cancel.

We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive and non-transferable right to use the service within the plan you are on. You may not resell it, redistribute it, reverse engineer it, or work around its technical limits.

4. Your account

You are responsible for keeping your login details confidential and for everything that happens under your account. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has access.

5. Your ledger entries

Your journal entries and other content remain yours. You grant us only the limited licence we need to host, store, back up and display that content back to you so that the service works. We do not publish your private entries, and we do not sell them.

6. Acceptable use

You must not:

  • use the service for anything unlawful, or in breach of anyone else's rights
  • send spam, attempt fraud, or impersonate another person
  • upload or share content that infringes someone's intellectual property
  • upload malware, probe or interfere with the security of the service, or attempt to gain unauthorised access
  • scrape, crawl or bulk-extract content, or use automated means to create accounts

7. Our intellectual property

We own the service and everything in it that is not your content — the software, design, written articles, photography, branding and the The Growing Ledger name. Nothing in these terms transfers that ownership to you.

8. Affiliate links

Some links in the Recommendations section are affiliate links. If you buy through one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Picks are chosen on merit first; a commission never buys a place on the list. Any purchase you make from a retailer is a contract between you and that retailer, not with us.

9. Payment, billing and subscriptions

Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns.

Payment, billing, currency, tax, renewal, cancellation and refund mechanics are governed by Paddle's Buyer Terms. The Pro plan renews automatically each month at the price shown at checkout until you cancel. Cancelling stops future renewals; your Pro access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for. See our Refund Policy.

10. Availability

We work to keep the service running, but we do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, timely, secure or error-free. We may change, suspend or withdraw features, and we may carry out maintenance that makes the service temporarily unavailable.

11. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate your access if:

  • you materially breach these terms
  • payment fails or is not made
  • we identify a security, fraud or legal risk arising from your use
  • you repeatedly or seriously breach the acceptable use rules above

You can close your account at any time. When an account ends, we will give you a reasonable window to export your entries before they are deleted, unless the law requires us to keep them.

12. Warranties and liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude all implied warranties, including merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. The service is provided "as is".

We are not liable for indirect, consequential or special losses, including loss of profits, data, or goodwill. Our total liability to you in any twelve-month period is capped at the fees you paid us during that period. Nothing here limits liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or anything else that cannot be limited by law.

13. Indemnity

You agree to cover our reasonable losses arising from your content, your unlawful use of the service, or your breach of these terms.

14. General

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction. You may not transfer your rights under these terms without our consent; we may transfer ours as part of a sale or reorganisation of the business. Neither of us is responsible for failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
